With an intoxicating blend of intricate guitar work, buoyant pop melodies, and candidly introspective lyricism, Avi Buffalo emerged from Long Beach, California, as one of the most distinctive American indie rock outfits of the 2010s. Formed by childhood friends while still attending high school, the group rapidly captured international acclaim following their breakout performances at Austin's South by Southwest festival in early 2010.

Their self-titled debut LP, released on the venerated Seattle imprint Sub Pop Records in April 2010, was greeted with immediate critical excitement. Renowned for its dazzling, intertwining melodic guitars and delicate vocal harmonies, the album featured modern indie staples such as “What’s It In For?”, “Truth Hurts”, and “Remember Last Time”. AVIGDOR ZAHNER-ISENBERG

Frontman, Lead Guitar, Vocals & Principal Songwriter

Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg At the artistic center of Avi Buffalo is singer, guitarist, and songwriter Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg. Possessing a prodigious natural talent for complex chord inversions, syncopated fingerpicking, and expressive lead phrasing, Avigdor began writing and recording home demos in his bedroom while still in his mid-teens.

Inspired by masters ranging from Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, and Wilco to jazz legends like Wes Montgomery and John Coltrane, Avigdor developed a unique voice that defied conventional indie rock chord progressions. His guitar style is characterized by cascading arpeggios, unpredictable modal shifts, and searing, emotional fuzz-toned solos delivered through vintage Fender tube amplifiers.

Beyond his virtuosity on the fretboard, Avigdor’s songs are celebrated for their vulnerable, coming-of-age honesty and sharp lyricism. Following the band's extensive world tours, he has continued to compose, produce, and collaborate with diverse artists, maintaining his reputation as one of Southern California's finest indie guitarists and song architects.

REBECCA COLEMAN

Keyboards & Vocals

Rebecca Coleman Keyboardist and vocalist Rebecca Coleman contributed the lush vocal harmonies and analog keyboard textures that served as an essential pillar of Avi Buffalo’s signature dream-pop sound. Her ethereal voice intertwined effortlessly with Avigdor’s vocals, creating the soaring dual-harmony dynamics that defined songs like “What’s It In For?” and “Coaxed”.

On stage and in the recording studio, Rebecca utilized organ sounds, electric piano voicings, and subtle synthesizers to provide atmospheric depth beneath the band's sparkling guitar work. Her melodic interplay added warmth, sophistication, and a quintessential California dreaminess to the band’s early Sub Pop releases and festival performances.

Following her tenure in Avi Buffalo, Coleman continued her artistic trajectory in Southern California music, forming the acclaimed dream-pop duo Pageants and earning widespread praise for her shimmering songwriting, keyboard arrangements, and evocative vocal style.

ARIN FAZIO

Bass Guitar

Arin Fazio Bassist Arin Fazio provided the agile, melodic low-end foundation that anchored Avi Buffalo’s intricate arrangements. Rather than simply tracing root notes, Fazio developed counter-melodic bass lines that weaved around Avigdor’s guitar voicings with fluidity and taste.

His dynamic playing on tracks like “Summer Cum”, “One Sunny Day”, and “Jessica” brought a lively, buoyant bounce to the rhythm section. Fazio’s bass work was instrumental in allowing the band to transition seamlessly between gentle, contemplative acoustic passages and high-energy indie rock climaxes during their international tours.

SHERIDAN RILEY

Drums & Percussion

Sheridan Riley Drummer Sheridan Riley served as the rhythmic engine and percussion powerhouse of Avi Buffalo. Renowned for their dynamic touch, jazzy syncopation, and effortless transitions between subtle brushwork and explosive rock grooves, Riley provided the essential pulse that drove the band's complex time signatures.

Riley began playing drums at an early age and studied jazz and orchestral percussion, bringing an expansive vocabulary of accents, ghost notes, and polyrhythmic flourishes into Avi Buffalo's indie rock format. Their inventive rhythms on anthems like “What’s It In For?” and “Where’s Your Loving Gone?” elevated each song into an energetic, propulsive experience.

Following their formative years with Avi Buffalo, Sheridan Riley went on to achieve major international acclaim as the touring and recording drummer for indie pop icons Alvvays, performing on worldwide arena tours and celebrated releases, while continuing to be recognized in Modern Drummer as one of the standout percussionists of their generation.
